Google Labs is now offering something called Image Swirl. Haven't played with it yet, but they say it "organizes image search results based on their visual and semantic similarities and presents them in an intuitive exploratory interface." Or here, have Flowing Data explain it to you. Here's what happened when I searched Dorothea Lange.
I don't know exactly what it means, but it looks really cool.
