Somehow we missed this construction project going on right outside our back door. A few weeks ago I started finding little organic stringy pieces on the back steps, then looked up and realized we're in trouble. There's definitely an egg (or more?) in there, because every time we open the back door and go out onto the porch the mom (or dad?) bird flaps away to distract us from the nest.
Last summer a bird nested in one of our hanging pots on the porch, and we had the same situation. We didn't think much of it - we figured we could all coexist happily. Except that after the babies were born, the mother didn't fly away when we came onto the porch. She dive-bombed our heads instead.
Oh, I don't know if this is all that bad. Once you have had a little critter come inside of your walls to die, keeping them outside--even if they are reproducing, even if they are dive-bombing--seems o.k. to me. Perspective, people; perspective.
