This semester my colleague Ned O'Gorman asked his University of Illinois students to "picture democracy"-- literally, to select a picture that represents democracy, and use that to construct their own image of the "ideal" (though obviously never perfect) democracy. Their choices are now available for public viewing at the blog demopics, and they would love your comments. Please go and view their work!
Though as of today I've only had time for just a brief scroll, there's a lot here and it's well worth checking out. One recurring visual topos: several students selected images of interlocked hands to visualize democracy as cooperation, unity-in-difference, and/or focus on a common goal.
Coo-el! That Ned is awesome. Thanks for the link.
