I'm here at the Visible Memories conference in Syracuse. One of my favorite things to do when I travel to another campus is to take an early-morning run to check it out. College campuses can offer surprising things, especially when you catch them before they wake up for the day.
Such was this morning's run. I ran up some hills (they have those here) to the main part of campus. Not following any particular route, I wound around what appeared to be the main quad and then ran smack dab into something I knew was here, but had forgotten and wasn't even looking for: Ben Shahn's famous mural, "The Passion of Sacco and Vanzetti." (No time to google for a link so you'll have to do it yourself). I literally froze in my tracks. It isn't big, but it literally sparkles.
What a treat.
