According to today's New York Times, a democratic legislator from Minneapolis is co-sponsoring a bill in the state House of Representatives to allow bars in St. Paul to stay open until 4 a.m. during the Republican National Convention in September. Rep. Phyllis Kahn says the measure would make St. Paul seem more "sophisticated."
A democratic legislator from Minneapolis thinks drunken, blathering, inflatable-elephant-toting republicans roaming the streets of my fair (and historically democratic) city at 4 a.m. is sophisticated?
Must be an April Fool's joke. Or one of those instances of sibling rivalry everybody talks about.
I hope they don't send them "outstate"!!!

I originally thought this bill was introduced to accommodate Packer fans when they come to town. We all know how "sophisticated" they can be...

This is no joke.
Wonkette blogged about it a week or so ago. The comments are worth skimming, as they include lots of funny/snarky posts about the RNC conventioneers "drinking liberally" and whether or not an additional provision would be made for turning a blind eye to all sorts of related, um, services.

Good old Wonkette! Always on the case. But, "services"? Hoo boy. That is simply NOT appropriate for good old St. Paul. Not in the least.

Yeah, just ask Norm Coleman's dad about St. Paul "services"
